Anon 2:
Oh, I'm fully aware that the idea is flawed. I openly admit that it was a cursory glance to see if anything, upon first glance, would jump out...would there be a light bulb moment? Clearly there was not. Also, do you have any insight into where I can find reliable, historical market cap numbers? Other than going through old annual reports...

Principal Dondelinger:
In the 95-96 season, the Sens were real barnburners that year, finishing with 18 wins and 41 points...the fourth straight year they finished last or tied for last...I think that's pretty terrible...

Interesting idea and article.

Analysis of numbers is flawed because of differing time periods. Should annualize the % price returns from date of naming rights to present. That would be a better comparison. A further comparison would look at excess returns (each annualized return - benchmark annualized return). The benchmark would be different for the various stocks due to different industries.

Another idea: Calculate the PV of the change in market cap over the time period and compare it to the PV of the cost of the naming rights.

I know that the arena in Boston sold single day naming rights for a month in 2005 before TD Banknorth secured the 20 year rights...so if that counts, I'd say it's probably up there, what with 33 names in 13 years

This got me wondering what the stadium with the most names in its history is...I know Baltimore's football stadium has gone through a lot of names, same with Houston's baseball stadium...

Also, anyone remember when Pink Taco Restaurants tried to sponsor Arizona's new stadium?
