Like I said in response to your comment on Trev's piece, the incentive argument is a poor one. There is always another contract, and there is always pride/reputation/legacy. There's a lot more incentive at play in the NBA than just your week-to-week pay cheque - your argument could be used to say 'why do players even try, their money is guaranteed' and a bunch of other similar arguments.

I agree guaranteed money limits the incentives, but there are a dozen other reasons to dope.

There is no incentive in the NBA to dope.
Contracts are GUARANTEED, so they are gonna get paid whether they come back quickly or not.

For every example of quick recovery and return to form, there are multiple examples of failure (Jermaine O'Neal, Gilbert Arenas, Carlos Boozer, etc.).

The UBER competitive guys, Kobe for example, play THROUGH the injuries.

The other sports where doping is rampant DON'T have guaranteed contracts..

So there's really no reason for NBA players to jeopardize their GUARANTEED paycheck to dope and potentially LOSE ALL that GUARANTEED money (and still not be sure they CAN come back from the injury- doping doesn't GUARANTEE recovery).

They're gonna get paid anyways, injured or not, so the only 'potential' benefit from doping in the NBA is what again???
